Barry Mason’s Sholing story is over after 11 years.

Sholing legend Barry Mason leaves to join Hamble

Loyal, valuable winger Barry Mason has been a prominent figure during his time with The Boatmen, and has played a remarkable 556 games for the club.

Mason was also an integral cog in the Sholing machine that stormed to FA Vase glory in 2014 and lifted the trophy at Wembley.

Sholing enjoyed a successful 2017, clinching two trophies and boasting a 68% win ratio.

But 2018 is off to an emotional start as Mason moves on in the hunt for first-team football. Due to Sholing’s policy of giving young players a chance in the first team, this season 33-year-old Mason was not getting the game time he has become accustomed to over the years.

He moves just down the road to Hamble Club, who currently sit 10th in the Sydenhams Premier Division, while The Boatmen are up in third.

Mason leaves behind his three younger brothers at Sholing: captain Byron, prolific striker Dan, and young prospect Marlon.
