Gosport Borough FC

Gosport Borough Football Club was originally founded in 1944 when the Gosport Athletics club was opened. The club focused on swimming, football, cycling and athletics after World War Two.

Within two years of their formation, ‘borough had won the Portsmouth and District League Division One and the Hampshire League Division One title.

In later years, the club gained promotion to the Conference and reached the FA Trophy Final at Wembley in the 2013/2014 season which saw them finish runners-up to Cambridge United.

However, Gosport got into financial difficulties during the 2015/2016 season and were unable to continue paying player wages so they lost quite a few players.  The side then faced a transfer embargo which made it impossible for the club to replace the players they had lost.

The club thought they had gained investment at the start of the 2016/2017 season but the main bidder walked away leaving the side in the same financial disarray. This left them missing tax payments and they faced four winding up orders throughout the campaign.

Now, the club sit bottom of the Evo-Stik Premier Division One with just one win all season at their home ground, Privett Park.

Alex Pike, who took charge as manager in 2005, was sacked in September 2017 after a winless start to the season. He was replaced by former assistant, Mick Catlin.
